One of Port Adelaide’s greatest strengths is the variety of places to visit when
one travels there. Unfortunately, these points of interest are scattered and
lack connections to guide the newcomer on their journey of discovery in one
of Adelaide’s oldest areas. This project aims to remedy this issue through an
expansion of the Port’s already successful Wonderwalls festival, bringing the
art down from the walls and onto the street itself.
As part of the greater masterplan for the North Adelaide to Port Adelaide
transport corridor, the existing Outer Harbour Train Line would be converted
to a light railway system. It’s proposed that the Port Adelaide portion of
this railway be diverted from its current course, travelling west along Grand
Junction Road from the current intersection of train line and road, and then
continue up Commercial Road to the Port Adelaide riverfront precinct with a
second line diverting to the west to reconnect with the current rail corridor and
continue on to Outer Harbour.
As part of the re landscaping of Commercial Road, the tram line needs to be
incorporated and this will be considered alongside the wayfinding street art
initiative and the continuation of the wetlands landscape being put in place
along Port Road
